What is Fair Wear?

Being Fair Wear Certified means that the brands adhere to eight basic labour standards derived from ILO Conventions and the UN’s Declaration on Human Rights. These standards are:

  1. No Use of Forced, Bonded or Prison Labour
  2. No Discrimination in Employment
  3. No Use of Child Labour
  4. Freedom of Association and the Right to Collective Bargaining
  5. Payment of a Living Wage
  6. Reasonable Hours of Work
  7. Safe and Healthy Working Conditions
  8. Legally Binding Employee Relationships

Why Organic Cotton?

Organic cotton is good for our health, and the health of our planet. Less water is consumed, and systems that replenish and maintain soil fertility and build biologically diverse agriculture are used.

Organic cotton does not use pesticides, insecticides, herbicides and Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), because these chemicals can be fatal, and, according to the World Health Organization up to 20,000 deaths each year are caused by pesticide poisoning in developing countries.

Conventional cotton farming accounts for more insecticides than any other crop in the world, an estimated 25%, and more than 10% of the world’s pesticides. These chemicals are poisoning our lakes, rivers and waterways, and have been discovered in foods, farm animals and even breast milk at an increasing rate.

The harmful effects caused by chemical residues leftover in non-organic cottons can include irritated skin, rashes and even headaches and dizziness.
